Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 23, 2026
1. Overview
Electee provides campaign management software for elections in Nigeria, including a mobile application used by campaign field staff (“canvassers”) to capture and verify supporter (voter) records, and a web dashboard used by campaign managers and candidates. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Electee collects, how it is used, stored, shared, and protected, and the choices available to individuals.
Electee is provided to political campaigns and organizations (“campaigns”) who act as the controllers of the data they collect. Electee processes that data on their behalf.
2. Data We Collect
Account data (campaign staff). Name, phone number, email address (optional), username (optional), assigned role, and a securely hashed password.
Supporter records captured in the field. When a canvasser records a supporter, the app may collect: full name, phone number, whether the number is reachable on WhatsApp, email address (optional), voter identification number, geographic details (state, local government area, ward, polling unit), a photo of the supporter and/or their voter card, the GPS coordinates and a derived human-readable address of the capture location, and the date and time of capture.
Device permissions. The mobile app requests access to the camera (to photograph the supporter and voter card), location (to record where a record was captured, for field-activity verification), and the photo library (to attach captured images).
3. How We Use Data
- To create and manage campaign staff accounts and access.
- To record, deduplicate, and verify supporter records captured by field staff.
- To provide campaign managers and candidates with aggregate analytics (e.g. verified counts by area or by canvasser).
- To reverse-geocode capture coordinates into a readable place name.
- To support optional future communications with supporters (e.g. WhatsApp messaging), where permitted by law and consent.
- To secure the service and prevent fraudulent activity.
4. Legal Basis & Consent
Campaigns are responsible for ensuring they have a lawful basis to collect and process supporter data, including obtaining any consent required under the Nigeria Data Protection Act and other applicable laws. Canvassers are instructed to capture data only with the supporter’s knowledge.
5. Data Storage & Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored on secured servers. Captured images are stored in object storage accessed via time-limited signed URLs. Passwords are stored only as cryptographic hashes and are never stored or transmitted in plain text. The mobile app stores records locally on the device to support offline capture and syncs them to the server when a connection is available.
6. Data Sharing
Electee does not sell personal data. Data is shared only with:
- The campaign that captured it (its authorized staff, scoped by role and assigned area).
- Infrastructure providers that host or process data on our behalf (e.g. cloud storage and a mapping/geocoding provider used to convert coordinates into an address), under appropriate agreements.
- Authorities where required by law, legal process, or to protect rights and safety.
7. Data Retention
Supporter records are retained for the duration of the campaign’s use of the service and as directed by the campaign acting as controller. On a verified request, a campaign may have records deleted.
8. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, individuals may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal data. Because Electee processes supporter data on behalf of campaigns, such requests are generally directed to the relevant campaign; we will assist the campaign in fulfilling them. To make a request, contact us at privacy@electee.ng.
9. Children
The app is intended for use by adult campaign staff and to record eligible voters. It is not directed to children.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
